ANIMATED INSIGHTS – Going Home Again

ANIMATED INSIGHTS BY SHANNON MUIR takes you inside Shannon’s latest reflections on her passion for animation as a medium, and other animated insights about life. To catch up on all posts, check out the Animated Insights portion of the website!

Here I am, cutting it close for an August post. I did stream all of the available episodes of the Kevin Smith HE-MAN series, and my main choice to withhold judgement. There’s a lot going on and clearly it is part of a larger arc. I will say I do want to return and see how it goes.

I spent part of this month going back to where my father lives, the first one we bought after he got out of the Navy. While VOLTRON initially entered my life and my creativity while we lived in a rental elsewhere in town, this is the house where I got the letter from Marc Handler and my taking animation and my career in Los Angeles began to take shape. I haven’t been able to be back there for a year and a half due to the pandemic and lack of vaccines until recently. It was so surreal to be there, and it has made me feel more longing to get back in touch with my creative side. Obviously, getting a chance to do any VOLTRON related project slips farther and farther away after 36 years (though I’d still do it in a heartbeat, don’t get me wrong!), but I can’t believe I built up all this passion for animation in general to have it only be an active part of my life from 1996 to 2005 (my last actual job on any show in any capacity, which was Production Coordinator for NODDY, though I also wrote for Midnight Horror School that year).

We willl see where things evolve, not just for me but everyone I think. There’s a lot of changes afoot in the world.

Until next month!
