Tuesdays, ANIMATED INSIGHTS BY SHANNON MUIR takes you inside Shannon’s latest reflections on writing, animation, and life in general. To catch up on all posts, check out the Animated Insights portion of the website! This installment shares her thoughts about animation vying for awards recognition.
As a professional member of ASIFA-Hollywood, this is the time of year I find I start receiving screeners in the mail and invitations to see animated movies. Everyone wants me to see them “for your consideration,” as the famous phrase goes. I’m needing to sit through a wide variety of them and help determine who is best of the best for a given year.
This never proves to be an easy task. There are so many incredible, diverse styles in animation. So many different stories compete for attention both in areas of art and craft. Truthfully, it gets hard to decide.
I don’t want to say anything that might sway my voting or others, so I will tend to not comment on specific animated films for the next little while – usually through January – to be sure I am past the voting period. However, I will find related things to talk about and keep my “animated insights” going on various topics about animation, writing, and life in general.
Until next week!
