Welcome to the limited series return of BETWEEN THE PAGES, running Mondays and Wednesdays now through mid-December 2020! Dubbed BETWEEN THE PAGES: FINDING MY VOICE, follow Shannon’s journey as she learned and grew to become more of a public speaker, and how she’s still learning today! Today is Installment 17, “Solo Workshop at JemCon 2008”.
One of the people very influential in starting me on my early path into animation was Christy Marx, developer of the animated JEM series, whom I made contact with as a teenager and with whom I remained in close contact as a close friend as I moved to LA and my career developed.
That’s why I found it to be an honor to get the opportunity to be part of the programming for JemCon 2008 when the convention came to North Hollywood, California. It gave me the chance to give back to people who remained fans of the show some of the knowledge I’d picked up about the industry as a whole. Given our mutual love of the animated series, this proved to be a much more comfortable setting than Pacific Media Expo.
This would also be my last appearance made specifically to promote the textbook, though I’d unexpectedly find myself asked to make some convention appearances that hearkened back to connections and my animated past in the next couple yuears that followed.
