Shannon Muir Talks Social Media and Fandom at Long Beach Comic Expo 2017!

After her appearance moderating a panel last Fall at LosCon on Social Media and Fandom with a diverse group of panelists, Shannon Muir tackles the subject of Social Media and Fandom in a solo presentation on Sunday, February 19th, 2017,  from 2:30 to 3:30 PM at the Long Beach Convention Center as part of Long Beach Comic Expo.

Questions raised during the presentation will include what impact the rapid explosion of social media outlets had on science fiction and fantasy fandom, and if it brings more fans together or scatter them into specialized groups. She’ll also touch on the history of how social media changed the way fans interact, and how fans can (and do) leverage social media to show off their writing, art, costuming, and more.

Shannon Muir’s background comes from becoming a pro through the fan community, originally becoming known as one of the forerunners of the VOLTRON online fandom by starting one of the earliest fan sites. She made her way from eastern Washington State to Los Angeles, California, where she would work on the production staffs of memorable animated shows like INVADER ZIM and EXTREME GHOSTBUSTERS, be involved in website production with NEOPETS and its closed sister property PETPET PARK, and as an author she’s written not only short stories and textbooks on animation but been chosen as one of two Western writers for the original Japanese production of MIDNIGHT HORROR SCHOOL. More recently, she’s appeared several times on the podcast LET’S VOLTRON.
