THE WILLOUGHBYS I first saw via digital pre-release screener from Netflix as an ASIFA member. At first, I was struck by the level of dark humor in it. However, as the movie progresses, you begin to realize it also serves as a bit of an ode to the storytelling of Roald Dahl. Also, it is based on a pre-existing childrens’ book, which I found out after the fact.
My impressions of it went up after that. Also, as the story progressed, characters began to become more rounded and the story resolved in a very rewarding way, despite the often dark humor. I encourage you to check it out and decide for yourself. See the trailer below.
