To catch up on all posts, check out the Animated Insights portion of the website! My husband followed the PHINEAS & FERB tv show more than I did. I’d watch with him occasionally, but every time he’d have to re-explain character relationships. It wasn’t any different seeing this film; I especially kept losing track that Candace’s best friend is the Doctor’s daughter. So I don’t know for sure how anyone who doesn’t already “get” the PHINEAS & FERB universe to some degree would find this movie accessible.
That said, if you know the universe or have a great translator (like I did, who thankfully didn’t mind being bothered), I thought it was a fun, wild ride. I’ve also learned that some retakes for this were done during quarantine, which makes it all the more impressive it made it to completion to be aired on Disney+.
It got a lot of media attention, but in case you don’t have any background, I’ll leave you with a trailer and you can decide for yourself.
