BETWEEN THE PAGES: FINDING MY VOICE – Podcast Regular on LET’S VOLTRON

Welcome to the limited series return of BETWEEN THE PAGES, running Mondays and Wednesdays now through mid-December 2020! Dubbed BETWEEN THE PAGES: FINDING MY VOICE, follow Shannon’s journey as she learned and grew to become more of a public speaker, and how she’s still learning today! Today is Installment 23,  “Podcast Regular on LET’S VOLTRON”.

In 2015, I received a contact out of the blue from Marc Morrell, the longtime host of a podcast known as LET’S VOLTRON. Not knowing my full past, he had become aware of my connections to the show VOLTRON: THE THIRD DIMENSION as the company that owned the rights to VOLTRON – World Events Productions – had teamed with me to use my fan theories of what would constitute an official “starmap” of the Far Universe in which Lion Voltron was set. He had plans for a multi-part series on the show, pairing me up with an enthusiast on VOLTRON toys named Gregory Tyler. If the latter name sounds familiar, he has since gone on to become the the show’s regular co-host.

I loved the chance to be on LET’S VOLTRON, diving back into the past and sharing my history with being interested in the show and how it changed my life going back to 1984. As I said, most of this was new to Marc and to Greg. At the time, I thought it would be my only time behind the microphone, and I was content with that.

However, it was far from the end. I would be asked on other podcasts, and in fact, later meet Marc and Greg together – along with Marc’s wife Kim and several other VOLTRON fans – at a Wondercon in Anaheim. This would be followed up my several meetups over the years with Marc and his wife Kim Morrell – sometimes with other folks with interest in VOLTRON, some without – at both Wondercon and San Diego Comic-Con International.

A full list of episodes are available at LETSVOLTRON.COM, and as of the 200th episode they moved to doing both video and audio versions of the podcast. Below is my most recent appearance with them, Episode 201. The audio only version is available here.

However, despite all this, I’ve known for some time there are areas I need to improve my skills in. Find out the choices I made toward improving my public speaking skills in the next installment.
